Studies have shown children with incarcerated parents who have mentors are less likely to use drugs or alcohol and more likely to attend school. Research has found that significant physical absence of a parent has profound effects on child development. Children of incarcerated parents are seven times more likely to become involved in the juvenile and adult criminal justice systems.
Tennis in the ‘Hood, Inc. matches children ages 4 through 18 with mentors in professionally supported one-to-one relationships. Matches come together through our community-based mentoring program. Mentors will receive training on an ongoing basis.
Community-based Mentoring: For an hour a week, mentors and mentees meet in their community to share fun activities and life experiences.

What you need to be a mentor?
- Desire to be a mentor.
- Two professional or personal references.
- Participate in an in-person interview.
- Have a background check performed.
